Initial Appointment
Please plan between 1 to 1 1/2 hours for your initial appointment, which is a comprehensive review of your health history, lifestyle, and the symptoms or condition for which you are seeking treatment. This is primarily based on the information you provide on the client information form and in our discussion, but also includes examination of your tongue and feeling your pulses. Muscle strength, range of motion, or other testing may be done, if indicated.
The information gathered in this process is used to formulate a customized treatment plan which includes acupuncture and possibly other therapeutic approaches. Alll techniques will be described to you before they are used, and you may ask questions at any time during your visit. Your appointment will include an acupuncture treatment, so please wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing. Also, it is advised that you eat a small meal or snack before receiving acupuncture.
The sensation experienced during acupuncture is different for each person. Some clients describe it as tingling or warm, others as dull or heavy. Often, clients report feeling a sense of calm and relaxation which continues even after the needles are removed.

Additional Treatments
Follow up visits are approximately 50 minutes, and include a brief overview of your symptoms or condition, discussion of changes since the previous treatment, and any new factors or concerns. This review, along with information from previous visits, will determine the acupuncture points and methods used for your treatment- this typically changes from visit to visit.
The number of treatments required depends on many factors, including how long the condition has been present, how often you receive acupuncture, and the other therapeutic modalities used. Ultimately, treatments are tapered and then discontinued as you progress toward your wellness goals.
